When working at his bench, John is inspired by the materials he works with. His mokume gane designs are formed from Damascus steel and precious metals, and he believes the more clearly one understands the limitations of these materials, the more limitless the creative possibilities become.
As a musician himself, John is also greatly influenced by the fierce individuality and unmatched beauty of jazz and classical artists such as Thelonious Monk and Debussy.
